Dear Friend,
I have just finished reading the newsletter of a wonderful missionary friend of mine. In it, she talks about reading the Book of Malachi, and how God is worthy of every sacrifice. She wrote that He does not require trivial things, but He requires our lives – poured out in surrender, given fully for His glory. I would mention her by name, but it is not safe for her, so I will just plagiarize her and let you know that I got that great knowledge from someone else.
I think of the amazing sacrifice Our Lord made for us, and how many people still reject Him, and it burdens my heart deeply. I also think of the sacrifice Christians all over the world make each day to let the love of the Lord be known to everyone. I include the staff of Called Christians in this mention of sacrifice, because so many of them have given up everything the world says for them to want, in order to be able to share the Gospel with people who need it desperately. And after sharing the truth and seeing people accept Christ and His gift of eternal life, these lovers of God continue to disciple people so they understand the Lord and grow closer to Him, so that in turn, they may disciple others.

I would like to highlight just a few of the ways this amazing group of Servants of God share Him with others. I believe you know that we have a very large prison ministry, teaching the Word of God in ten prisons in Uganda. We also do a large amount of “humanitarian aid” in those prisons, and we do this for all, whether Christian, Muslim, or Animist. This is very confusing to those that don’t know Jesus. They don’t understand why some God would care for them when they don’t worship Him. But this very thing draws many non-Believers to hear God’s Word! We let them know that God cares for everyone and is unwilling that any should perish (in hell), so we are sharing the love of God with them. This often lights a spark in them to get to know this strange God. Just recently we were able to baptize 270 men in one of the prisons there, and in another prison, we baptized 40 women! We are able to provide medicines for the prisoners when there is an outbreak of something like Scabies or Red Eyes. And we stock several of the prison pharmacies with necessary medications that are used to treat the prisoners.

We are gearing up for our annual Christmas program in the prisons, where about 50 people go in and do songs and dances, skits and dramas, and preach the Word of God. We also take several hundred kilos of rice to the prisons so that they have something to eat on that one day besides posho (ground maize meal) and beans. This year we hope to distribute just over two tons of rice when we go to do these programs the week before Christmas. This will cost about $4000, and we are definitely short of that money right now. If you would consider contributing for this, and for the transportation and food for the kids and adults that do the programs, we would be MORE then grateful! Called Christians is called by God to do many other ministries as well. Deborah Roberts is our Director of Education, and she oversees the School of Ministry classes, both in Jinja and in local villages, on our compound, and in and around Jinja. Ann Wibbenmeyer, along with Loyce Munduru, have been holding Schools of Ministries for women in local villages, and now those women are taking over the teaching of most of our women’s Bible studies. Below is our last School of Ministry graduation class, and some of the Women’s graduating classes. This year instead of holding a full school on our campus, Deborah innovated with individual classes that local people could attend – choosing which classes they wanted to be in. This was a huge success, and people loved being able to learn about God and His Word without having to stop working and sit in a full time school all day.

At other times, the Believers from Called Christians and from The Bridge Calvary Chapel do various other outreaches designed to share God with people that do not go to church. One is a scale ministry, where people get weighed (they all want to know their weight!) and then receive a tract and some good news about our Lord and Savior. The church members go to the hospital every Sunday and pray for any sick person that is willing to be prayed for. There are many door-to-door evangelism outreaches, and Round-Table discussion nights. And we periodically hold pastor conferences where everyone works hard to take care of the pastors that come for fellowship and additional Bible training.

And in order to glorify God, Called Christians does as much compassionate help to others as we can possibly afford: widows who need food and medicine, sick children, food for the hungry, and much, much more. Below are photos of a former Muslim man who converted to Christianity, and when he did so, his family came and cut off both of his arms. We were able to establish this man and his wife in a business, and were able to provide very simple arm prostheses for the man. They both love the Lord and say they would never turn back to Islam.

Called Christians is dedicated to sharing God’s love and teaching God’s Word in order to glorify Him in every way possible! Thank you to those that support us both in prayer and financially! And if others of you would like to help as well, please go to our website calledchristians.org and click the donation button, or go to Calvary Church with Skip Heitzig and find the missions page, and then my name. Checks can also be sent to Calvary Church Missions, 4001 Osuna, NE, Albuquerque, NM 87109 and put in a note designating it for Beverly Rich in Uganda. All donations will be used for Called Christians expenses and ministries and for nothing else!
May the Lord Bless You and Keep You, May He Make His Face to Shine Upon You, And Be Gracious Unto You, And Give You Peace!
In God’s Mighty Love,
Beverly
